Reigning European champions Barcelona Women travel to Vienna for a Women’s Champions League clash against St. Pölten Women.

St. Pölten are featuring in the Women’s Champions League group stage for the fourth time in five seasons, having successfully navigated the qualifying rounds.  

However, their campaign is on the brink of an early end after three consecutive defeats, with a combined scoreline of 12-2. They began with a 2-0 loss away to Hammarby before surrendering a 2-1 lead to fall 3-2 against Manchester City. Their struggles continued last week with a heavy 7-0 defeat to Barcelona, leaving them six points adrift of the Catalan side and needing a near-miracle to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.  

Barcelona, meanwhile, are in scintillating form, winning seven consecutive matches across all competitions since their opening 2-0 group-stage loss to Man City. In the UWCL, they bounced back with emphatic home victories, thrashing Hammarby 9-0 and dismantling St. Pölten 7-0, with braces from Ewa Pajor and Claudia Pina in the latter game.  

With six points from three matches, the reigning European champions sit second in Group D, three points ahead of Hammarby and three behind leaders Man City. They travel to Austria brimming with confidence after a dominant 4-0 win over Real Madrid in Saturday’s Clasico, featuring goals from Patri Guijarro (2), Pina, and Alexia Putellas.
