Manager Russell Martin has faced heavy criticism, especially as his possession-focused style hasn’t produced results, despite a recent narrow 1-0 loss to Manchester City. While they’ve shown glimpses of potential, including progressing to the EFL Cup quarter-finals after a 3-2 win over Stoke, defensive lapses and an inability to hold leads have plagued the Saints. Winless in their last 22 league outings, Southampton are desperate to end their slump and may find encouragement in their historical success over Everton.
