Primeira Liga newcomers AVS will aim to break into the top half of the table as they host Porto at the Estadio do Desportivo das Aves.
AVS had a fantastic start to their Taca de Portugal campaign last Sunday, securing a 2-0 victory over Campeonato de Portugal side Sandinenses at the Campo Jogos D. Maria Teresa.
Head coach Vitor Campelos will hope this cup win can spark a resurgence in the league, where AVS is currently on a three-game winless streak and has had a mixed start to their top-flight debut. Following a 1-0 win against Rio Ave on September 14, they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Sporting Lisbon at the Estadio Jose Alvalade on September 22, before drawing their two October matches against Farense and Arouca.
On the other hand, Porto secured their first Europa League win on Thursday, edging past German side Hoffenheim 2-0 at the Estadio do Dragao. Tiago Djalo scored just before halftime, and summer signing Samuel Omorodion added a second goal in the 75th minute.
After two cup victories, Vitor Bruno's side returns to Primeira Liga action, where they have won their last four matches, scoring 11 goals and keeping two clean sheets since the start of September. Following a fourth-place finish in the 2023-24 season, Porto has won all but one of their eight league games this season, with the only setback being a 2-0 defeat to rivals Sporting Lisbon on August 31.
