Girona will aim to recover from three consecutive competitive losses as they host Rayo Vallecano at Montilivi.

After several key departures over the summer, Girona anticipated challenges in replicating last season's impressive third-place finish. Although the league campaign is just six matches in, early indications show Girona may struggle to secure European qualification again. Currently in the bottom half of the table, they've won two, drawn one, and lost three matches. Following back-to-back wins against Osasuna and Sevilla, they’ve suffered three straight losses, including a 4-1 defeat in the Catalan derby and a narrow 1-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in their inaugural Champions League match. Most recently, they fell 2-0 to Valencia, who had been winless in 12 league games. 

Desperate to return to winning ways, Girona's manager, Michel, a Rayo legend with over 300 appearances for the club, will be motivated, especially since his team has won their last three encounters against Rayo with an aggregate score of 8-2. Rayo Vallecano, however, comes into this match buoyed by four points from their last two home games, including a 3-1 win over Osasuna and a resilient draw with Atletico Madrid. They will be seeking their first-ever top-flight victory over Girona, having drawn two and lost four of their last six league matches against them, with their last competitive win coming in the Copa del Rey in January 2022.
