Colombia will host the top-ranked Argentina in South American World Cup qualifying at Barranquilla.
In a rematch of July's Copa America final, Colombia will face Argentina on Tuesday, both teams being strong contenders for the 2026 World Cup as they near the midpoint of qualifying.
The Copa final in the U.S. saw Argentina clinch a second consecutive title with Lautaro Martinez’s goal in the 112th minute. This marked Colombia’s first final appearance in 23 years and Néstor Lorenzo's first defeat in 26 games as coach. Since then, Colombia has remained unbeaten, with Luis Díaz’s late equalizer securing a point in Peru last Friday, bringing them to 13 points and third place in the standings.
Argentina, meanwhile, continued their dominant form by defeating Chile 3-0, with goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Julián Álvarez, and Paulo Dybala. They now lead the table with 18 points from 21 and are 12 points clear in the automatic qualification spots. With an unbeaten away record in CONMEBOL qualifiers extending back to 2017, Argentina is well-positioned for a 14th consecutive World Cup appearance. A strong performance against Colombia would reinforce their top spot.
Prediction: Colombia 1-1 Argentina
