After both teams scored five in their opening UEFA Nations League fixtures, Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina face off in Budapest.
Just weeks after their Euro 2024 defeat to Germany, Hungary suffered another heavy loss on Saturday, falling 5-0 to Germany in Dusseldorf. They conceded four goals in the second half and saw their hosts hit the crossbar twice, marking a disheartening start to their Nations League campaign.
Before the Euros, Hungary had lost only once in 16 matches and narrowly missed out on the Nations League finals. However, they’ve now lost three of their last four games, conceding 10 goals, putting them at risk of relegation from League A. With a top-two finish needed to secure a place in the new quarter-final stage, a home loss on Tuesday would be disastrous for them.
Their opponents, Bosnia-Herzegovina, also endured a tough start, despite a valiant effort against the Netherlands. They equalized after going behind but ultimately fell 5-2. After a successful stint in League B, Bosnia has struggled at the elite level, and new coach Sergej Barbarez has overseen three consecutive defeats, including the recent loss to the Netherlands. The team is now on a seven-game losing streak.
