Two of the biggest clubs in English football will lock horns for a glamour friendly in California on Saturday evening, with Arsenal taking on Manchester United.

Arsenal claimed second place in the Premier League for a second consecutive season in 2023-24, finishing an agonising two points behind Manchester City after leading the standings for the majority of the campaign. 

They have now begun preparations for the upcoming season in the hopes that they will be able to push past the Citizens, and they made a decent start by drawing 1-1 with Bournemouth in midweek before winning the match on penalties. 

Mikel Arteta’s side ended last season with six league wins in a row and only one defeat in 2024. They scored a total of 91 goals across their 38 games and held the league’s best defensive record with just 29 goals conceded. 

The Gunners won both matches against this opponent last season and are unbeaten in their last three competitive games against the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Manchester United endured their worst-ever Premier League season in 2023-24, finishing in eighth place, 31 points behind their cross-town rivals Man City. 

The Red Devils ended the season with a bang average record of three wins, four draws and three losses in their final 10 matches. However, they managed to salvage some pride by winning the FA Cup in May to earn a spot in the Europa League in the upcoming campaign. 

Erik Ten Hag’s side kicked off the preseason with a 1-0 loss to Rosenborg but bounced back well, putting in a much better showing to beat Rangers 2-0 last weekend.
