Always Ready faces an uphill battle to progress past the round of 32 in the Copa Sudamericana when they host LDU Quito at Estadio Municipal de Al Alto.

Last Wednesday marked Always Ready's first knockout match in this tournament, and their inexperience showed early on as they appeared uneasy and struggled to create scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.

They managed only one shot on target in the first leg and have now gone two consecutive Sudamericana matches without scoring.

However, there might be a glimmer of hope for Flabio Torres and his team entering this game, given their strong home record in the group stage where they won all three matches, including a convincing 3-0 win over Defensa y Justicia.

On the other hand, LDU Quito bounced back from their disappointments in the Libertadores with a strong performance last week, positioning themselves well to advance to the round of 16 for the ninth time in their last ten Sudamericana appearances.

Their victory in the first leg was coach Vitamina Sanchez's first win since taking charge, following a 2-2 draw domestically against Deportivo Cuenca earlier in June.

Despite a recent winless streak away from home, Quito has not lost a Sudamericana match by a margin of three goals or more since a 4-0 defeat to Atletico Goianiense in 2022.
