After suffering a devastating elimination from the US Open Cup, a deflated Dallas will face Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS action.
Dallas' hopes for a third US Open Cup title were dashed on Thursday morning with a 2-1 extra-time loss to Sporting Kansas City in the quarter-finals at Children's Mercy Park.
Despite a recent 3-2 defeat to Sporting Kansas City in league play just days earlier, Dallas sought revenge but couldn't break the deadlock in normal time. Colombian defender Daniel Valencia's decisive header in the 111th minute sealed their fate.
In contrast, Los Angeles Galaxy bounced back with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Minnesota United in their latest outing, fueled by Brazilian striker Gabriel Pec's brace. Before that, their four-game winning streak ended with a 2-1 loss to city rivals Los Angeles FC on July 5.
Under Greg Vanney, the Galaxy stands third in the Western Conference with 43 points from 23 matches, alongside Real Salt Lake and leaders Los Angeles FC. Their ambition to climb further will face a tough test against Dallas, who have been formidable in recent encounters, unbeaten in 15 of their last 20 meetings since May 2008.
Prediction: Dallas 2-2 Los Angeles Galaxy
