England Women will resume their Women's Euro 2025 qualifying campaign when they welcome Ireland Women to Carrow Road on Friday.
England host the Republic of Ireland in a crucial European Championships qualifier on Friday. The Lionesses currently sit third in Group C behind France and Sweden and will be hoping to register their second win in the group phase over The Girls in Green, who are bottom of the group without a point or a goal so far in their qualifying campaign. There are a number of options to consider for our prediction on the England vs Republic of Ireland game.
Under the leadership of Sarina Wiegman, England Women have achieved significant success, winning the European Championship and the Finalissima, as well as reaching a World Cup Final. Their form, while it did take a dip after losing the final to Spain, has seen a resurgence. They put their Euro Qualifier defeat to France right in their last Euro qualifier, winning 2-1 in Saint Etienne. The Lionesses have won six, drawn one and lost one of their last eight games, scoring 27 goals.
The return from injury of defender and captain Leah Williamson, and supremely talented goalscoring winger Beth Mead, has been the catalyst for these marked improvements. This resurgence and the return of key players make England a formidable force to be reckoned with.
In contrast, the Republic of Ireland has found Group C to be a very tough assignment, with losses in all four of their games against Sweden (twice), France and England thus far. Eileen Gleeson's team have not been heavily beaten in any of those four games, but a lack of goals (they have not found the net in any of their last six games), has meant that generally good defensive displays against good teams are going unrewarded. Their last Euro qualifiers saw them lose a double header to Sweden, losing 3-0 in Dublin before a 1-0 defeat in Solna four days later.
